UKULELE FOR WELLBEING & COMMUNITY
Uko Ono is passionate about the power of music to transform lives. Music has been used as a healing force for centuries and can bring people together by reaching across barriers of language, age, nationality, status and culture. Our weapon of choice is the humble ukulele - the Instrument of Joy - and we customise and run community projects, such as short courses, workshops, and festival pop-ups to connect the community.
Uke Squads
The Uke Squads is a concept that was born from the belief that there is nothing quite like music, and in particular playing and singing together, for healing and connection.
Working with community groups I design
8 - 10 week programs where my Uke Squads come in and teach a specific group to play the ukulele, pull a repertoire together and organise public performances within the community.
Uke Collaborations
In Uke-collaborations we partner with industry professionals to design music programs that benefit different community sectors. The most recent example of this is the 'Musicians in Hospitals' project with the Mid North Coast Local Health District which is currently being rolled out in Coffs Harbour and the 'Musicians in Health' program on Zoom.
These are more tailored and longer term projects and usually are reliant on community/arts/health grants.
Uke Mobs
Uke Mobs are all about bringing an instant hit of joy and wellbeing into the community. We set up at Community Markets and Festivals and run back to back 1/2 hr workshops which culminates in a Ukulele Flash Mob performance.
You only need a couple of chords to create a joyous outcome! Great fun for all ages.
