SONG TUTORIALS

Crazy

Here’s another great tutorial from Michelle. With some help from a friend named Oliver English, Willie Nelson wrote the song ‘Crazy’ in early 1961. It is said that “Musically the song is a jazz-pop ballad with country overtones and a complex melody”. Well that covers a lot of genres! The lyrics describe the singer’s state of bemusement at his own helpless love for the object of his affection. Nelson says he originally titled the song ‘Stupid’, but changed it after playing it live and getting fan reaction. Personally, I think ‘Crazy’ was the better choice! The intro picking of the melody is good practice for us to be able to cleanly make our chord shapes to be able to hear the pretty melody. Keep the strum pattern steady and even, slower is better to start! The goal here is for clean and clear chords. Enjoy!
